Tip of the Month
1. Read and use context clues to figure out unknown words. The man ate a humungous sub that almost did not fit into his mouth. What does humungous mean?
2. Practice with synonyms (same) and antonyms (opposite) help you figure out new word meanings and spellings. Talk and speak and Quiet and Noisy.
3. Rhyming words provide similar spelling patterns and help you learn how to spell new words. Heart start part
4. Prefixes (beginnings) and suffixes (endings) are very helpful to learning new word meanings. The prefix and suffix change the meaning of the words.
5. Keep a good dictionary handy and use it regularly to learn new words, check words that you are unsure of and generally learn new words.
